GPA Calculator
Calculate your unweighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale. Works for a single term or a full year — just add a row for each course.
Your grades stay in this browser tab while you use the calculator and are not sent to a server.
About this calculator
This GPA calculator uses the standard US 4.0 scale, where an A is worth 4.0 grade points, a B is 3.0, a C is 2.0, a D is 1.0, and an F is 0. Your GPA is the average of your grade points weighted by the number of credits each course is worth. Higher-credit classes influence your GPA more than lower-credit classes, which is why a four-credit lecture pulls more weight than a one-credit seminar.
The tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, and we do not store your courses, credits, or grades. You can switch between letter grades, percentages, and 4.0-scale points, which is useful when you are mixing transcripts from different schools or comparing a high school and college course on the same page.
How it works
- For each course, enter the credit hours (often 1 in high school, 3 or 4 in college).
- Select the grade you earned, or choose your preferred input scale.
- Multiply each grade's point value by its credit hours to get quality points.
- Add the quality points together, then divide by the total credits to get the GPA.
Example calculation
Suppose you took four 3-credit courses and earned A, A, B, and C. That is 4.0 + 4.0 + 3.0 + 2.0 = 13.0 grade points per credit. With 12 total credits, the GPA is 13.0 × 3 ÷ 12 = 3.25.
What this means
A GPA between 3.5 and 4.0 is generally considered strong, 3.0 to 3.5 is solid, and below 2.0 typically triggers an academic warning at many schools. What counts as a good GPA depends on your school, your program, and your goals — confirm your own thresholds with your counselor or academic advisor rather than relying on a single number.
FAQ
- Does this calculator handle plus and minus grades?
- Yes. A− is treated as 3.7, B+ as 3.3, B as 3.0, and so on. If your school uses a different scale, you can switch the input to direct 4.0 points and type the exact value your school uses.
- What if my school does not use a 4.0 scale?
- Many schools use percentages or letter grades that map to different point values. Use the input mode that matches your school's transcript, and confirm the grade-point mapping with your registrar.
- Are my grades saved anywhere?
- No. The calculator runs in your browser only and does not send your data to a server. Closing or refreshing the page clears your entries.
- Can I include pass/fail courses?
- Pass/fail courses usually do not affect GPA, so most students leave them out of the calculator. Check your school's policy on whether a Pass counts toward credit but not GPA.
