How to make a grade chart

  1. Enter the total number of questions or points for the test, quiz, or score item.
  2. Choose whether the chart should show wrong answers, correct answers, or points earned first.
  3. Adjust the passing grade and letter-grade cutoffs if your class uses a different scale.
  4. Review the full table, then copy it into a gradebook note or print a classroom chart.

Formula

Percentage = correct answers / total questions x 100. For point charts, use points earned in place of correct answers and total points in place of total questions.

Example chart for 20 questions

For a 20-question chart, 0 wrong answers gives 20 correct and 100%. Two wrong answers gives 18 correct and 90%, which maps to A on the default scale. Four wrong answers gives 16 correct and 80%, which maps to B.

How teachers can use it

Teachers can use this chart while grading paper tests, checking quiz scores, or preparing a printable reference. The chart is a local estimate and does not replace a course syllabus, gradebook rounding rule, curve, or school policy.
